There are a lot of great reasons as to why you should travel with kids. And there are a lot of ways that you can travel with kids. When the school bell rings to mark the end of the school year, families often struggle to find ways to occupy their children’s time over the summer months. Sometimes this means a visit to the cottage, sometimes the beach and other times it means leaving the comforts of home to experience a new city, country or continent.

1. Travel with Kids Promotes Hands-On Learning
Travel often means new people, new places and new cultures.  While traditional schooling offers excellent book learning, there are some things that have to be experienced rather than read about.  Travelling offers real-world associations to what your children have been studying throughout the year.

During our travels, our children have had the chance to learn hands-on about agriculture, indigenous practices, cooking, and much more. What’s more, being out of their element during these learning opportunities actually benefited their ability to learn and focus.

2. Family Travel Teaches New Responsibilities

Being away from home breaks your regular routine and forces you out of your comfort zone. Both children and adults can benefit from having to assume new roles during their travels. Whether as an explorer, navigator, taste-tester or interpreter, there is always an opportunity for kids to step up and take leadership roles.

When you travel with kids you are forced out of your comfort zone. You have to learn to rely on each other in order to overcome any obstacle that life throws at you. It’s incredible how often our children have surprised us with their maturity, compassion, and strength when life has thrown us obstacles.

When children travel, it is an eye opening experience for them. Travelling is a good confidence for children as well. They’ll pick up new skills such as reading maps or discover new places, learn new languages, meeting new people and try new things too! Travel is a great chance to broaden your child’s understanding of the world.

4. Children Learn to See Similarities Instead of Differences

Your children will notice the differences of culture and way of living of people from other side of the world but this won’t stop them from seeing the similarities instead of differences. They’ll learn how people who people are similar even though their worlds may seem completely different.

Each time they are introduced to a new culture, they gain insight into the greater world. Kids who travel to gain a better understanding of the greater world than those who don’t experience life abroad. And that is a gift that will last a lifetime.

Waiting is not the worst thing in the world. Actually can be a pleasant experience because good things come with patience! In the fast pace world that we are in right now, it’s best for young kids to learn how to be patience. When parents are travelling with children, the unexpected is expected.

Travel compels you to deal with changes in schedules, eating preferences and sleeping patterns.  You may have to wait in long lines through airports, sit patiently in the plane and deal with long bus and car rides. Children will learn creative ways to occupy their time and this skill will help them through the holiday.

Things go wrong, you can’t get around it. Luggage or things gets lost, connections are missed, bad weather can happen and many more.
